Insect soldiers, coming soon

exploits

2 weeks ago, we told you that a french company worked for more than 2 years on a nanomechanics dragonfly.

We learned in March that the DARPA (Defense Advances Research Projects Agency) made a request for quotation for the development of remote-controlled cyborg insects. Here also, the purpose is militar.

The program is called HI_MEMS (
Hybrid Insect Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) and it consists in creating insects that can move, that have sensors, cameras, transceiver and maybe a GPS receiver.
So they could control the insect to the target, or at least at 5 meters from it. The

Le but est de pouvoir guider l'insecte à moins de 5 mètres d'une cible. The operating range would be a hundred meters. An interest? ya : detect the sign of explosives in a building and provide information to the military team. Just an example...

Moreover, it's just a request for quotation : we're far from the final result.
With all this stuff on its back, the cyber-bug is gonna have a funny face.

for those which do not know : unit conversion.
